Brightfrost sat in close to the camp's entrance as most of the recent storm was clearing up. She was waiting for Cindermist's hunting patrol to come back and report on what happened out there. The deputy had sent Icestorm to bring them back after she realized that it wasn’t just going to be raining today. Brightfrost hoped that at least Cindermist took the apprentices out of the rain when the thunder sounded too close. While she wasn’t worried about Streampaw since he was old enough, Featherpaw however was a bit too young for the storm just yet. Cindermist may have been able to handled a storm like that at that age but he was a special case.

She sighed as she thought about how her former apprentice Swallowpelt had trained Cindermist. She had complained to Brightfrost that Cindermist was smart for his age and the way Brightfrost had taught her wasn’t working. Brightfrost explained to her back then that apprentices are all different in their own way and she shouldn't be using her former training for Cindermist since she was a slower learner back then. Although that advice didn't stop Swallowpelt and Cindermist from fighting the two still grew close together.

Which is why when that terrible day happened, Brightfrost felt absolutely horrified when Swallowpelt died at the Sunningrocks. Thinking that if only she had given her apprentice the fishing assessment instead of the swimming and fighting one then Swallowpelt would still alive.

I'm thinking the posting order would be Brightfrost, Icestorm, Cindermist, Featherpaw, and then Streampaw. If anybody else ends up joining they will after Streampaw. We can change it if we need to.

Icestorm pushed her way into RiverClan's camp, shaking out her paws which were heavy with mud as she wobbled forward. Her ears flicked back, her head following them in direction, as the rest of the patrol spilled in from behind her. The she-cat's focus ticked over each pelt as she counted them, albeit unnecessarily as there were only three others, still she wanted to make absolutely sure. Once every cat was safely in sight, she met Featherpaw's gaze with a gentle blink and gave a solid nod to Streampaw signalling them both to drop off their prey, which thankfully made it to camp edible. The plump blue-point warrior then flicked her tail at Cindermist to join her once the apprentices were off to the pile.

She padded just a few pawsteps further out into the clearing meeting up with Brightfrost who was sitting close, probably awaiting the patrols return. The RiverClan deputy seemed to be deep in thought with worry tugging at her features, Icestorm's eye rounded with a hint of curiosity before she interrupted the high-ranking she-cat with a respectful dip of her head, "We were only able to bring back two fish before the storm took a bad turn."

Cindermist followed Icestorm into the clearing of their clans camp, his gaze flickering over its inhabitants before shifting to watch Featherpaw and Streampaw deposit their prey onto the fresh kill pile. He blinked, watching through narrowed eyes as he observed the two apprentices. It hadn't gone unnoticed to him that they seemed more comfortable with each other after their patrols time in the outcrop. The gray tom looked down at his mud ridden paws in disgust, soaked to the skin and bone after the rains relentless assault onto their backs. He didn't envy ShadowClan today.

Refocusing on the other warrior, he padded after Icestorm to stand in front of the RiverClan deputy. Irritation instantly bubbled up inside his chest from seeing the she-cat that had trained his deceased mentor. It was her fault that Swallowpelt had died after all. Her fault that she wasn't still here. He was certain of it. Locking his jaw, Cindermist stared past the high ranking warrior, and waited to be dismissed. A thought crossed his mind to tell her about possibly relocating the camp, but decided it was better to keep his mouth shut in case he cursed her into the dark forest.

Featherpaw followed the two warriors happily back to their safe haven, and split off after Icestorm's signal to drop off Cindermist's fish on the fresh kill pile. Taking a swift glance towards Streampaw, she rushed back to the apprentices den, ready to sit in her comfortable moss nest sheltered underneath an overhang. The female apprentice sat down and began licking herself dry, scooping mouthful after mouthful of mud, scrunching up her nose at the texture. Although she didn't mind the taste of it, the slimy touch of it was enough to make her stomach reel.

Streampaw practically drags his fish on the ground as he set it on the fresh-kill pile before trudging into the apprentices' den. His paws felt like they were boulders as he walked, but he wasn't going to lay in his nest until he's gotten dry. Streampaw is NOT going to sleep in a wet nest. As he trudged into the den, he noticed Featherpaw was already in there, and all his other friends were either sleeping or out doing their duties.

Instinctively, Streampaw goes and sits next to Featherpaw. Featherpaw looked like a drowned mouse, but he probably looks no better. He could feel the mud start drying in his fur, and Streampaw wondered if it were actually possible to clean himself without jumping into the river.

Brightfrost immediately snapped to attention at Icestorm's voice. It took a moment for the warrior’s words to reached her mind and when it did she let out a huge sigh.

“As much as I would have liked for you to have caught more then that,” the sliver tabby said flicking her ear, “I understand that with the this recent storm you wouldn’t have time for more.”

The deputy turned her towards the apprentice's den and with a slight meow asked, “So, how did Streampaw and Featherpaw do with the fishing? Also, if you have anything to report on that awful storm please tell me, I would rather it now then later.”

"By the time I returned to group up with Cindermist and the apprentices the storm had worsened, so we took shelter," she responded to the deputy's query.

Icestorm brought up a muddy fore paw and began cleaning the half dried clumps of dirt clinging to her fur, mostly tuning out with a quick flick of her ear toward the tabby tom beside her. She figured perhaps Cindermist should give the report on the apprentices seeing as how the she-cat hadn't been there to witness much of the training. Although trying her hardest to keep attention to her clanmates she quickly hyper focused on stripping the remaining mud from her paws as they spoke.

Cindermist listened to the exchange with delayed attention, feeling his paws itch to leave the deputy's line of sight. He was aware that Icestorm was leaving it to him to explain the apprentices hunting performance, but just thinking about his lack of consideration to training them today made him feel embarrassed to even shove out the words. However, with a flick of his ear staring anywhere but at Brightfrost, he replied with a hushed mew.

"We had just gotten to the river before it started to rain. I demonstrated how to catch a fish, and Streampaw caught one after me. Featherpaw didn't have a chance to show me her hunting skill since it began to pour heavily at that point," he paused, wondering if he should bring up his plan to have them track during the storm. A heartbeat later, he flicked his tail and started to lick one of his front paws clean. There was no need to tell that part to this warrior.

Featherpaw felt her fur grow hot near where Streampaw was sitting, and took a short breath, surprised by his choice to even be close to her. Self consciously, the apprentice began licking her sides to scrape the mud off and shuddered from the texture once again. Taking a pause, she glanced towards the gray and white tom.

"Um... Maybe... Maybe we'll have to jump... in the river to clean ourselves off?" she purred awkwardly, and looked away before she could see his response. I sound so... so.. Unable to finish her own thought, her pelt burning from embarrassment, she briskly licked her chest and felt dread settle beneath her heart. How long would it take to clean herself off?
